30th April is commemorated all across Pakistan as the Youm e Shohada, to honor and remember the martyrs, who laid down their lives for this Pak Sar Zameen. A lofty status such as that of Martyrdom, is reserved only for those souls, who live for others and never hesitate for a second to sacrifice their life for others.
Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them – that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.(3:170)
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The person who participates in (Holy battles) in Allah’s cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostles, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise (if he is killed in the battle as a martyr). Had I not found it difficult for my followers, then I would not remain behind any sariya going for Jihad and I would have loved to be martyred in Allah’s cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause.” (Sahih Bukhari – Kitab al Eman)
It was narrated from ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Three will intercede on the Day of Resurrection: The Prophets, then the scholars, then the martyrs.”
(Sunan ibn e Majah – Kitab az Zuhd)
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The martyr does not feel anything more when he is killed than one of you feels if he is pinched (by a bug).” (Sunan ibn e Majah – Kitab al Jihad)
Narrated Ka’b bin Malik:
From his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The souls of the martyrs are in green birds, suspended from the fruit of Paradise, or the trees of Paradise.” (Jami at tirmidhi)
This is the source of motivation of the recruits who join Pak Army with a single motto, to attain martyrdom. How can any enemy hope to defeat these men who march into battle field wearing their lives as their armor! For them and for us, life is all about dying for this country and Islam. Verily Pakistans fate is bound with Islam, as the saying goes – What is the meaning of Pakistan? La ilaha illallah (No God but Allah).
Throughout the course of their training, the brave soldiers are taught to walk upon the path of great generals of Islam like Sayiduna Umar al faruq [r.a], Sayiduna Ali ul Murtaza,Sheyr e Khuda, Haider e Karrar[r.a], Sayiduna Khalid bin Waleed al Saifullah[r.a] ,Sayiduna Imam Hussain, Sayyed us Shohada[r.a], Salahuddin al Ayubi [r.a] and Tariq bin Ziyad[r.a]. The minds of our soldiers are infused with stories of gallantry, of how Sayiduna Ali[r.a] went up against Marhab, the most feared fighter in all of Arabia and literally sliced him into half, through his armour or the stories of the tactical and military genius of Sayidina Khalid bin Waleed[r.a] , how he never lost a single battle, how he looked at the enemy in the eye and never feared to take on the enemy ,even if it was 10 times greater in strength or the epic saga of Karbala, the loyalty of Sayidina Abbas[r.a], the bravery of Sayidina Ali Akbar[r.a], the longing for martyrdom of Sayidina Ali Asghar[r.a] and the epic final assault of Sayidina Hussain[r.a] , when Zulfiqar unleashed a thunder upon the enemy and how Imam Hussain[r.a] went into prostration ,surrounded by enemy. This fearlessness is infused into each and every soldier, this ignites the fire to overcome any obstacle to make sure that the standard of Islam and Pakistan keeps flying high.
For our martyrs courage and valour are not acquired attributes, rather they are inherent virtues these martyrs are born with.
Lieutenant Syed Yasir Abbas Shaheed, took three bullets straight to his chest and attained martyrdom while fighting the terrorists who had attacked Mehran Base in Karachi, was one such youth who had grown up with dreams of being martyred. His mother says that Lt. Yasir from an early age had a strange luster in his eyes and he had frequent dreams of getting martyred and being embraced by Holy Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him]. The night he attained martyrdom, he was having a skype conversation with his mother and sister, when he heard explosions and gunshots, his mother recalls that he said Goodbye, picked up his gun and ran straight towards the attack site. His colleagues mention that Lt. Syed Yaser Abbas Shaheed led the initial response against the terrorists and for well over half an hour ,he along with his friends defended the sensitive installations and the PC3 Orion aircraft. Lt. Yaser kept fighting even after being hit by the enemy, he held the fort till backup arrived. Lt. Yaser succumbed to his injuries and wide a smile upon his face, embraced martyrdom.
The following is the official statement, paying tribute to the extraordinary valor shown by Capt. Karnal Sher Khan, by the Pakistan Army
“Captain Karnal Sher Khan emerged as the symbol of mettle and courage during the Kargil conflict on the Line of Control (LoC). He set personal examples of bravery and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. He defended the five strategic posts, which he established with his Jawan‘s at the height of some 17,000 feet at Gultary, and repulsed many Indian attacks. After many abortive attempts, the enemy on July 5 ringed the post of Capt. Sher Khan with the help of twobattalion and unleashed heavy Mortar firing and managed to capture some part of the post. Despite facing all odds, he led a counter-attack and tried to re-capture the lost parts. But during the course he was hit by the machine-gun fire and embraced Shahadat or martyrdom at the same post. He is the first officer from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province to be awarded with Nishan-e-Haider.”
He counter attacked the enemy at Tiger Hill during day when enemy could easily see his movements. It was a surprise for Indian Army as they were not expecting any thing like that. It was considered as a suicide counterattack but being familiar with the positions of that post
Karnal Sher was not only successful in forcing the enemy to retreat but also followed them to their base camp and got killed in the process. His valour made the Indian Army recommend the Pakistan Government to award him with the highest gallantry award.
Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, who is also the maternal uncle of the current Chief of the Armed Forces of Pakistan General Raheel Shareef. Major Raja Aziz Bhatti was post humously awarded with Nishan e Haider, for his extra ordinary gallantry which saved the lives of countless people thus becoming immortal by being transformed into an inspiration for everyone.
Martyrdom is not only reserved for the brave soldiers of the Pak Armed Forces, in fact there have been equally remarkable and awe inspiring stories of exceptional bravery by members of other forces and civilians as well. How can we forget the sacrifice of Aitzaz Hassan Shaheed, the young boy who sacrificed himself to save the lives of his fellow school mates. He embraced the suicide bomber with a smile, fully aware of the consequences. Chaudhry Aslam Shaheed, the martyred CID officer, roared like a lion his entire life, nick named the “Taliban Hunter”, early in his career he was shot more than 10 times yet he came back, his house was blown up by terrorists, yet he came out from the dust and smoke and threatened the terrorists to attack him in his face if they had any guts. In Januray 2014, his car was attacked with more than 100 kg of explosives, the roaring lion, Chaudhry Aslam Shaheed was martyred, but he left his legacy and joined the ranks of those who lived and died for this Pak Sar Zameen.
These brave men and women, weather serving in the military or civilians, all who laid down their lives for the Islam , for their country , are not ordinary. The lived with honor and died with glory, registering their sacrifices forever in the pages of history. Their sacrifice serves as a beacon of hope, that no matter how bad things become, there will always be some people, hidden under their cloaks of normality, who`ll come out at their appointed times to prove that this Pak Sar Zameen can go barren, it can refuse to produce any crop, but it can never produce a coward who sits down when time and situation demands him to buy the safety of others with a transaction of his blood, the blood of a martyr.
This nation is revived like a phoenix by the blood of its martyrs, we may be down, things might not look good, but all the darkness is just temporary, the lamp which was illuminated by the blood of our martyrs hasn`t extinguished, the flame is still burning. O our martyrs, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten, your sacrifices haven`t gone in vain.
